Sarah and I spent a lovely day at the RHS flower show at the beginning of July – the weather was fabulous and the show was amazing! It was our first time at the show as ‘gardeners’ so we were able to get some good tips and ideas, as well as enjoying the show gardens and displays.
Some shots from our visit to the Paralympics. We went to see Men’s goalball, and men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball. Inspiring athletes and fantastic sport!
Sarah and I decided to treat ourselves after we had to bail out of our holiday to Cornwall earlier in the year. We decided to go on cruise, thinking that this would suit us in terms of ease of getting around. A friend’s mother recommended that we look at Fred. Olsen as she’d had good experiences with them. We decided on a cruise to Norway and the fjords as it’s somewhere that neither of us had been to before, and the cruise had a UK departure port which made things even easier. Sarah and I managed to get tickets to see one of the qualifying sessions for the women’s artistic gymnastics. It was an amazing experience – with different pieces of apparatus in use at the same time, we hardly knew where to look! The venue was very impressive and the stewards, police and armed services personnel couldn’t have been more helpful.
Here are a few of the photos that I took. It was pretty hard to get decent shots as the light wasn’t that great and a high shutter speed was necessary to freeze the action. Continue reading Olympics 2012: gymnastics→
We’re having a short break in Hampshire at the start of the jubilee weekend, and the first stop was Marwell zoo so that we could spend some time looking at Sarah’s favourite animal, the meerkat. She’d probably want me to point out that this obsession predates a certain insurance advertising campaign…
We spent a very pleasant afternoon enjoying glorious sunshine at Scotney Castle in Kent. The rhododendrons were magnificent and the old castle looked really lovely in the warm light, reflected in the moat.
One for the railway buffs! In September of 2009, Sarah, my brother-in-law and I took my mother-in-law to Switzerland to celebrate her 80th birthday. One of the main parts of the holiday was a trip on the Jungfraubahn to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch. Continue reading Jungfraubahn→
